Teaching Approach

With an emphasis on enhancing children’s independent thinking skills, we use discussions as one of the primary teaching methods. Our teachers design open-ended discussion questions based on children’s abilities and put children in groups for discussions and presentations. We also adopt the self-directed learning approach. Through learning in groups and interacting with others, children are able to develop confidence and language skills.

Foster in children a balanced development in the domains of ethics, intellect, physique, social skills and aesthetics

Moral development (Ethics)

We pay attention to children’s moral development. We strive to teach children to be righteous and sincere, be kind and caring, and be grateful to nature. We have been awarded the merit prize in the Moral and Civic Education Award Scheme organised by Yan Chai Hospital for 10 consecutive years in recognition of our achievements in nurturing children’s morality.

Cognitive and language development (Intellect)

We place emphasis on the biliterate and trilingual capabilities of our students. We implement specialised teaching in English Language and Putonghua. With both subjects taught by English and Putonghua teachers, it enhances children’s pronunciation and phonics skills. Through incorporating music and games in the lesson, we give children a head start in learning English and develop their interests in interacting with others using simple English.

A clear discussion teaching strategy keeps children engaged in the classroom  as well as gets them to respond actively and share their experiences and feelings. It enhances children’s overall language development.

Physical development (Physique)

In our campus, an extensive space is made available for children to take part in different physical activities. We have an outdoor activity space and an indoor space for sensory integration activities, providing children with sufficient opportunities to move their bodies and make physical activity a part of their everyday habits. To cater for children’s mental and physical needs at different ages, children are allowed to take part in free play using different physique equipment before class, which helps develop their physique and social relationships. All of our teachers and students also do ‘spine care exercise’ together so as to develop good habits for a healthy spine and promote students’ gross motor development.

Affective and social development (Social skills)

To encourage our students to develop caring and supportive friendships with each other, we launch the “My Buddy” programme. When a child needs to leave the classroom to use the washroom and help teachers to get the attendance sheet, he/she needs to perform the action with his/her buddy. This programme allows children to learn to work with and care for each other, and create a loving atmosphere at school. We also launch the “Helpful Angel” programme. K3 students are invited to take it in turns to be the helpful angel at school, helping students from the lower grades with borrowing and returning books, folding clothes. This helps develop students’ awareness to serve the school and instills in them a positive attitude of serving others.

Aesthetic development (Aesthetics)

Music activities are carried out in class to develop children’s interests in music and dance. Different forms of music games encourage children to be creative and to express themselves. In terms of art skill developments, students are given different art materials and resources to create their art pieces in the lesson. During the process, they can enjoy a joyful time with their peers, learn to work with others, be creative and enjoy the fun of sharing with others their work.
